Welcome to the Toledo WIKI.
First question: What is the Toledo Wiki?
This site grew out of an ongoing project to record Toledo's music history. However we found that researching these things takes a great deal of time, so, in two years of trying, we knew little more than we did to begin with. It became clear that if this project was going to be a success, a different route was needed. That route is this "WIKI" site.
Second question: What is a WIKI?
A WIKI is an open editable database, where anyone can change, add and update any of the entries. You can change this page you are reading right now by clicking the edit button above if you think you can improve it.
That is the concept behind this page. Modeled on WikiPedia.org (We, in fact, use their very same code), this site aims to compile the stories of the Toledo music scene from those who experienced it. Consider it an encyclopedia of Toledo. People, places, and events that shaped this place we call home are chronicled here, so that they won't be forgotten.
So question three: How do I make an entry?
1) Search for the topic with the search bar on the left (ex. Frankie's Inner City)
A. If a matching article is found, you can view the article then add & edit information using the 'edit' tab at the top of the text box.
B. If there is no article found from your search, click the "create this page" link. That will take you to an edit screen.
OR:
2) The second way to make an article is to click an unassigned internal link. They are the RED links rather than a BLUE. That is, RED links are topics that the author thought deserved an article, even though one did not exist yet, while BLUE links already have an article. The coding for both is the same. Simply surround the linked phrase with double brackets, [[like so]]. This will automatically create a link to either an article about that subject or an edit page to create that article.
It sounds a little confusing but once you get going it is a cinch.
So what information are we looking to collect on this website?
All of the people, places, and events that have made this scene what it is.
We are starting this by compiling a comprehensive list of Toledo bands and you can help us out with this. Below is a list of bands. Read though it. Once you get to the end, if you can think of one we missed (your bands, a friend's band, just one you heard of) add it to the list by clicking the edit button on the right and typing it in at the bottom. If you want to go further:
- click the Band Template page.
- click the "view source" button at the top
- copy the code
- go back and click the new band link you made in the bands list
- paste the text and fill it in.
